About Lauryn
Hi, my name is Lauryn E. Hill, and I am a graduate student at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I am currently in my last term of didactic work, and will be starting Level II Fieldwork in July of 2017. I will graduate in May of 2018 with my Masters of Occupational Therapy.
When I graduated from Baylor University in 2014, I had over 300 hours in pediatric occupational therapy, and had entered my Masters program with the intent of pursuing a career in pediatrics. However, I have learned that my strengths and passion lie in other areas, particularly working with older adults. I am interested in hospice and palliative care, and I hope to pursue certification in wound care and low vision or lymphedema care after graduation. I am still learning what it means to work with this population, but I am a hard-working individual who is constantly learning and self-teaching to become a better OT practitioner.
My short term goal is to pass the NBCOT on the first attempt. As for second short-term goal, I have learned that I want to be a fieldwork educator to upcoming students. Based on my own experiences, I understand how nerve-racking the whole fieldwork experience can be, and my hope is to provide as much reassurance and guidance as possible to build each student's confidence and knowledge-base prior to entering the workforce. Majority of my fieldwork educators have made this positive impression on me and I want to pay it forward to upcoming students. I know that it will be a fulfilling goal for me to achieve as a practitioner.
